lyrics

When stars shine brown, the Prince of Poison

packs his quiver with bullet casings,

hoists his hover-folds and glides

on fumes that rise from earth-bound facings.

Reflecting mouths secrete co-gapings.

Stars and throats release steam-clouds,

dumbly hazing warm- and cold-

front sickness mists from sleeping crowds

both global and celestial.

Turbulence and fog support

the Prince's path on mica nights

as he rakes the trees and sorts

his gatherings from fresh-lopped leaves

from Ash and Signifier Palm,

and Holen Spruces' dry dead needles

steeped in spores as if a calm

dawn mushroom sneezed on them for hours.

The Prince rolls tannin cigarettes

from leaves and steep-dried needle crumble,

packing them in gauze paquettes.

He skims pond-sponges with a sieve

and crushes sauna-soaked and sweaty

mountain gravel, rolls them with

his palms, and with the breath of Yeti,

gels them into bruise-gold beads.

The bullets shaped like bumblebees

are funnel-filled with these gem portions

where the Prince kneels on his knees

on the moss of Floamy Knoll.

The gauze paquettes, he straps to spines

of moth-tipped arrows for his bow.

And then he watches for the shine

of stars to change their shade, from brown

to tan to beige to bone to white.

On cue, the Prince of Poison shoots

his aimless weapons through the night.
